[Ancient Den]
If you take a mox pearl and remove the bit where it's good but keep the bit where it dies to null rod and all the other standard artifact hate you get this.

OK, if you are so much more knowledgable about the game than I, please explain how this is better than a mox pearl (ignoring price and availability, purely in terms of card quality).

"It helluva a lot cheaper and its not restricted. Plus its great w/ affinity"

Cheaper is irrelevant. The card costing a lot doesn't make it bad, it just makes it expensive.

Not being restricted is proving my point, not yours. If Ancient Den was even close to as good as the Pearl, it'd be restricted too.

Great with affinity? Isn't the pearl great with affinity too? It's an artifact, it costs the same as the den, it doesn't waste your land drop, what more do you want really?

Artifact lands made tournament level affinity possible. It had a good run. The only reason why they banned it was to promote other deck types. It still makes fun decks

"The only reason why they banned it was to promote other deck types."

In other news: water continues to be wet, trees maintain their wooden nature and the sun staunchly refuses to stop being hot.

Alright, consider these things from every angle, folks.

1: Yes, it's good with affinity, because your lands are also artifacts and therefore you get free Frogmites and Myr Enforcers. Yay. Any deck worth its salt should be able to handle an affinity deck anyway. There's dozens of ways to make fast decks, this is just one.

2: It still stands that it's a nonbasic land. What's more, it's a nonbasic artifact land. That sounds pretty trivial at first, but that's two things that can come back and bite you in the @#% later. Your lands are infinitely easier to destroy and can cost you a whole lot more than a mana source when they're destroyed. Only Darksteel Citadel Buy gives you the security that an artifact land needs to be viable in affinity. Otherwise, expect Choking Sands Buy or Builder's Bane Buy, the latter of which is infinitely worse for these things to get hit by.

Otherwise, Terrys, I like your style. Keep up the sarcasm and irony, man.

Thank you! My sarcasm will be with me to the day I die, so nothing to worry about there. Happy

Meh... nothing special... easier to destroy than a regular land, only usefull if you can benefit from artifacts...

and TerrysAlt , ive noticed you dont seem to think before rating the cards... and, because youve posted 5 times on the same card i wonder if this is all you do with your spare time.

Which of my comments seems not to be well thought out? Perhaps I can explain the reasoning behind it.

Hmm... now that i think about it, many of the cards you rated werent very good, most were too expensive like Angel of Despair or just copies of older cards...

I was thinking about my zombie kingdom deck problems and this and the other artifact lands take my largely junk cards and make them work. ( zombie kingdom deck has over 700 zombie related cards in it and it plays will enough that I'm a pramary target everytime we play.)

Nim Shrieker is just one of the cards that is greatly helped by these kinds of cards without creating an affinity deck.

"TerrysAlt" & "Nick Caligo" you guys are idiots. Artifact land are great with more than just affinity. Suddenly Fabricate Buy fetches land, Tinker Buy reads "Sac a land: get an artifact" and your lands count toward everything that gets artifact associated bonuses, like Tolarian Academy Buy.

Sure they can be killed by artifact destruction but anyone who plays Shatterstorm Buy won't see it until turn 5 or 6 by which time either:
A. You've mowed them over already
B. You've established yourself enough that the game is yours even without your land
C. You were going to lose anyway

What you're failing to see is the simple translation that for whatever purpose your lands now read "artifact." So the fact that your land become slightly more volnerable is massively outweighed by the benefits of dropping an artifact every turn simply by playing a land.
