I wouldn't quite call this card broken due to its relatively high casting cost and low toughness, but if it is left in play it can ruin whole decks in one or two turns.

I think this is totally broken. We all agree hyppie is a crazy good card. This is hyppie grown up a bit and on crack. Instead of discarding ONE card, you remove up to FOUR cards! For one extra {B}, it is totally worth it. Good bye Counterspell Buy. See you later Wrath of God Buy/Damnation Buy. Sayunara Akromas. Adios Darksteel Colossus Buy. This card will tear sh!t up.

u r overreacting yeah it is a great card but it's a 2/2 that can easily be killed. so calm down Extirpate Buy is way worse than this.

Some people are a little crazy. Most of you, in fact.

It's annoying. I'll give it that. It tears decks up. Good stuff.

But turn 4 sucks. Unless you all play with your noob friends, or are yourself a noob, you should know that if this crature isn't dead the turn it comes into play, the other person playing severly sucks. Loxodon Hierarch Buy is good. Giant Solifuge Buy is good. You know why? Because they win games. They also aren't killed as easily.

This guy, however, will. If you have been playing for even as little as a year, you should know the crazy amount of removal that has just recently popped up will end this card. I know it looks good, but try it against someone experienced and it will fail. Oh well.

Looks cool, though.

If you weren't a noob...you'd learn how to spell so when you are bagging on people, they can understand your trash talk. There are always ways to kill creatures...if you have been playing for less than a year, you'd know that. Some creature's abilities more than makes up for their casting cost. This ability is one of the best ones in the set. Let's see you start crying when your opponent casts it turn 2 and turn 3 Diplomatic Immunity Buys this guy. What then? If you don't like this card, you must think Hyppie sucks as well. Thanks for being a hate rater. 5 people say it is good. 1 person says it is not. Who's the noob now?

there are so many ways to get rid of this card though, as with many other cards, but i think that this is really awesome though.

I think wizards are coming up with amazing cards due to the fact that all the old school players have the rally good old stuff, and the newer players have s*it for cards.

Happy

under the right circumstances, this thing is evil. it's biggest drawback, however, is only having 2 toughness- which i think was the right move for WotC. if they had made this thing able to withstand Seal of Fire Buy or Pyroclasm Buy, then it would border on broken. as is, it's a very useful control creature- although i personally think it's catering to noobs that cry every time an experienced player beats them (which is my opinion on every set after the odyssey block, just look at how little thought is required for every set since- except kamigawa block minus jitte- but everybody just luvs bashing that block except for jitte because not every card in the block was a bomb and the mechanics of the set required thought to use effectively [save jitte]. see my point?). but i digress.
my opinion on this card: stupidly good in limited, easy target in t2. mix in some bounce and and this thing can get nasty real quick if u don't take it out. i'm giving it a 3 on originallity cuz it's Lobotomy Buy with a body.
btw, Extirpate Buy is superior in most situations. since i'm prolly gonna get yelled at for that one, i'll quickly explain: extirpate costs 1 mana, is an instant, has no summoning sickness and can't be shocked. reuseablity of the specter should be moot since most of the time in t2, the specter will be lucky to get off 1 shot unless u protect it well.

Way over priced card.

I mean my friend runs two and he STILL can't get one in.

We don't even have to counterspell it when it comes, but the second he attacks with it, that person spends all his resources to have that flinged away either by burning, creature removal, or simply making a bigger flier.

No matter what you do the card can't make it past even the smallest defence.

I got four of them. I still haven't found a deck to put them in but I think they will do some major damage when I do.

There are ALWAYS ways to kill creatures, so stop rating it as mediocre simply because you can kill it by burning it or countering it. Look at the effect! Even if this thing is out, you shouldn't be relying on it as a win condition. It's too weak to kill an opponent by itself anyway. At its worst, the opponent's attention will be drawn to the Specter due to its insane effect and they will consider removing it a top priority. While they are distracted, you get a turn or two to set up your stuff. I don't see how this is an average card. A 2/2 flying creature for 4 mana isn't THAT overcosted with such an ability attached to it. Either way, you win. Well, Hypnotic Spectre does look much better than this, I'll admit.

Some people say the ability is broken, others say it is way too easily killed . . . both groups are correct.

It works really well in this UBW tempo deck I created with pact of negation to protect it the turn it comes down.

Also works well in mono black discard because you discard all of the opponent's removal before it comes down.
