How it Works

This is an old school "White Weenie" (AKA Death & Taxes; AKA Taxing Winds) deck, built for Standard format according to 1994 rules.

The block then consisted of the core set of Unlimited Edition as well as the expansions Arabian Nights, Antiquities, and Legends (requiring at least one card from each set).

Old school white weenie decks featured very fast, powerful creatures for their mana costs, and overall the deck's theme worked well with and against a land destruction strategy. First turn threats were efficiently deployed to add early game pressure and also worked well around more permission and control-oriented deck strategies. Towards mid-game, the Crusades and Jihads added in to beef up the small creatures and overrun the opponent.

This deck version focused on draw/card advantage using the Land Taxes to weed out unneeded land from the deck over the course of the game. An added bonus with Winds of Change allowed the deck to dump hands of useless cards in favor of better cards to replace them.

This is a reference deck.
