Since Infect will rotate out soon, I modified my standard, pauper UG Infect into RG Infect for Modern. I recently modified the sideboard.
Thinking whether to use Blight Mamba or Necropede in the mainboard.. originally used Blight Mamba, but since it dies early (without getting the chance to regen), thinking of using Necropede instead.
Sideboarding:
Melira, Sylvok Outcast - for Melira pod, to counter their own Melira
Ancient Grudge -Affinity Artifacts
Ranger's Guile - additional protection from Red/Black
Flame Slash - an alternative to Melira Pod
Guttural Response - decks with counter
Magnetic Theft - Umezawa's Jitte or swords, anyone?
Ranger's Guile - additional protection from Red/Black
Wild Defiance - for Red or control decks
Considering adding Spellskite in SB, but the 2 phyrexian mana is keeping me from doing so.
Expenses:
Glistener Elf - 7x4 = 29
Assault Strobe - 10x4 = 40
Collosal Might - 10x4 = 40
Groundswell - 5x4 = 20
Ranger's Guile - 2x3=6
Giant Growth - 5x4 =20
Revenge of the Hunted - 50x1=50
Uncanny Speed - 1x4 = 4
Apostle's Blessing - 10x3=30
==================================================
Budget, aggro infect deck with control ability [counter spells and draw cards].
Notes* tried and tested, wins most of the time, especially on 1v1. I was impressed with this deck when I won in multiplayer, even if both players focus on attacking me.
Blighted Agent Buy, accompanied with pumps, became the key cards as it is unblockable, knocking of the opponents early on one by one.
I. Early game:Start with early infect creatures such as
Glistener Elf Buy Blighted Agent Buy,
Blight Mamba Buy and
Ichorclaw Myr Buy and attack. Note that it only takes 10 poison counters to win the game.
As soon as possible, use pumps such as
Giant Growth Buy,
Groundswell Buy (if you played a land), and
Vines of Vastwood Buy. If
Distortion Strike Buy is not used when attacking, it is suggested that you use these pumps once the opponent agrees to take the damage of your weenie infect creatures. Save
Vines of Vastwood Buy just in case he or she has direct-damage spells.
If these creatures manage to hit early, you may now use
Corrupted Resolve Buy to counter spell.
II. Mid game:Rot Wolf Buy is helpful as defender against weenies. It also helps with the card draw.
It is only during the mid game or late game that I suggest you use
Soaring Seacliff Buy and
Turntimber Grove Buy as additional pumps as you might need mana early game.
III. Late game:If the opponent manages to live, you still have a few tricks up your sleeve.
Phyrexian Swarmlord Buy will be the late gamer creature, while
definitely with enough mana, you may use
Fuel for the Cause Buy as counter spell with an additional 1 poison counter for the enemy. Use the tokens as your final blow, as there would be plenty.
IV. SideboardIf, for example, you really want to save up, you may change
Phyrexian Swarmlord Buy, which is the only expensive card, by
Viral Drake Buy or by
Chained Throatseeker Buy.
If, for example, you want to have a better deck, you may change
Llanowar Elves Buy with
Birds of Paradise Buy or better yet, use
Noble Hierarch Buy for the +1 damage bonus when creature is attacking solo.
Naturalize Buy is also present just in case you face an artifact or enchantment deck in addition to the counter spells available.
Prey's Vengeance Buy might also substitute for
Giant Growth Buy.
