Hey, doc, could you look at this kind of rouge list for me and suggest a sideboard. I know it looks questionable, but it does really well i promise. in preboard match ups, it's weak against goblins, but not much else suprisingly http://essentialmagic.com//Decks/View.asp?ID=835554 I thank you deeply Arcanic_One P.S: Please also give your opinion on dropping one sword for an Engineered Explosives Buy if you can, thank you

Vial is listed on MTGIsland for 8.61 for Very Fine. Unless you want Mint cards, you can get Vials for less than 10 a pop. ![]() Dude, am I blowin' your mind yet or what? Top/Jace is a very bad card advantage engine. You're not running any fetches to dig you out of a bad top 3, and realistically, you're doing in 2 cards what Jace, the Mind Sculptor Buy does better in 1. Either way, you're playing combo. CA isn't your goal, surviving to get your combo in play (and keep it there) is. You want dig spells like Compulsive Research Buy and Thirst for Knowledge Buy so you can find them or Muddle faster. Calciderm and WoG are both very out of place. Expand your dig or counter package instead.

hey doc, can you give me some pointers on this legacy monoblack deck http://essentialmagic.com//decks/View.asp?ID=836741 it's pretty casual/budget oriented. i might take it to tourneys for fun, but i'm not looking to go much higher than the $100 price range for the whole thing. bearing that limitation in mind are there any cards i have that shouldn't be there? anything i could swap in for them? thanks

So how do I deal with aggro heavy decks without the Wrath of God Buy or Day of Judgement? And how Many Jace the Mind Sculptor do you recommend? I wanted to run Thirst of Knowledge or Compulsive Reasearch Anyway. I also need to know what to do about the sideboard, as after game one, I'd get hated out by graveyard hate, not to mention Meddling Mage Buy, any ideas for a sideboard plan?

The best way to deal with quick aggro decks are the old classics of Daze Buy and Force of Will Buy. Again, you're not playing a control deck here. You're playing a control heavy combo deck. You're not really looking to out CA anyone. You just want to get your two tricks in play and then abuse the hell out of them. Post board is honestly pretty dismal for you any way you slice it. GY hate is always popular in Legacy, and it's even more so right now with Survival being so dominant. You might try a bit of trickery and dedicate 8 SB cards towards becoming true MUC. Sphinx of Jwar Isle Buy and Vedalken Shackles Buy slide in pretty easily in place of your combo, and can make all that GY hate your opponents board in dead. Classic SB options would be things like Blue Elemental Blast Buy and Tormod's Crypt Buy (or even Ravenous Trap Buy). I like to board a few Spell Pierce Buy for control MU's. If Fish or Goblin is popular, splash some black duals and fetches in your MB and run Engineered Plague Buy. If Affinity looms around, try Null Rod Buy, Hurkyl's Recall Buy or Energy Flux Buy. Against any sort of storm combo deck, Mindbreak Trap Buy is sick. Aven Mindcensor Buy is fun against Survival decks. As for Jace - Look at his abilities. He is a one stop shop for any sort of control. He filters, he draws, he unsummons, and he's a wincon. The card is amazing, and I have a hard time justifying dang near any blue deck these days without 4 of the bugger.

I'm really not the budget/casual guy, but maybe Alastor will take a shot at it. From a quick glance, you need more land (24 is the base line, folks) and less oodles of discard. And no Nighthawks allowed. Hypnotic Specter Buy would be a good replacement for dross like Inquisition. You also really want to lay hands on a playset of Thoughtseize Buy in place of Duress Buy. For under $100, though, you'd probably be a lot better off going Burn if you're going to a tournament. Especially now that Chain Lightning Buy is cheap(ish).

24? Really? What are we playing here, man - Standard? You need 20 lands, and 4 copies of Dark Ritual Buy. That's more than enough to run you most halfway-decent mono-black decks. Also for about $100, you could run a pretty straightforward MBC Discarder: Dark Confidant Buy x4 Nantuko Shade Buy x4 Mesmeric Fiend Buy x4 Vampire Nighthawk Buy x3 Hypnotic Specter Buy x3 Abyssal Persecutor Buy x1 Extirpate Buy x4 Dark Ritual Buy x4 Innocent Blood Buy x4 Duress Buy x4 Hymn to Tourach Buy x4 Sensei's Divining Top Buy x3 Cabal Coffers Buy x2 Swamp Buy x16 Not drop-dead gamebreaker amazing, but it should be strong for a casual deck. ![]() Dude, am I blowin' your mind yet or what? Cutting land and adding Cabal Coffers Buy says just about everything that needs to be said about that list.

Yea, basically. I'm trying to wrap my mind around a functional version of MBC without Sinkhole Buy and Wasteland Buy.

Tournament functional, no - no way on this green earth will that Top 8 at a heavily-competitive tourney. But, if he's tryin' to run a casual deck that's Legacy legal, I'd suggest that. It's strong enough for most one-on-one casual games. ![]() Dude, am I blowin' your mind yet or what?
