Cool Former collector, want to return to game.. please help! 4/10/2012 5:42:35 AM

Hello everyone!

This is my first thread with hopefully many more to come in the near future.

Anyways let me get to the point, I used to be very into magic the gathering when I was much younger probably back in the 1998-2000 time period.

I was only about 11 or 12 years old at the time, I stopped playing mainly because I couldn't afford to continue purchasing cards and a lot of my friends stopped also.

I recently stumbled on some of my old cards I found tucked away in my basement, decided to brush them off and mess around for a while.

I had so much fun, and it brought me back so many memories seeing some of these old cards I recognized from when I was younger.

Anyways it seems I forgot how much fun playing magic was and I would really like to get back into the game and play for fun and meet some cool new people with the same interests.

I have more money nowadays to fund the hobby so I am eagerly wanting to get started collecting again, my question is because i have been out of the loop for so long...

what would be the easiest / most efficient way to get a deck build and get right back into the action? What is the most efficient way to build a deck and get my hands on some new cards.

I really enjoy standard format and booster drafts

thanks in advance!

Shame on the regulars for not answering this guy sooner. (I pop on forums once every 2 weeks ish)

Hope this post is not too late (6 months is a long time).

I would go get a standard legal deck, also known as Type 2 or T2. Right now standard is relatively healthy. The average standard legal competative deck costs something like 180-250$ and once you start going to some FNM's that price tag will feel well worth it.

To start look up some archetypes such as these (google the keywords). Delver, R/G Aggro, Wolf Run Ramp, Wolf Run Ravager.

After you get a good idea of how those decks work you can pick one and build it. After you get the hang of the more competative playing you should be set to start building some your own brews without relying on the Net Decks, the most popular online decks.

I really do advise starting with a NetDeck if you intend to be competative. If you just intend to have some fun, find a group in your area. Just ask around. You'd be surprised how many people play this game. People at work, that gal with the blue sudan, Frankie your good aquantance.

Just make sure that if you start it up again start up with people you would be willing to spend hours with, cause thats exactly what you do.
