Does Torpor Orb stop this? 4/24/2012 7:11:59 PM

Torpor Orb Buy

does it 'stop' the following cards:

Primeval Titan Buy can only get lands when attacking

Phyrexian Metamorph Buy he dies when comes into play

Warstorm Surge Buy i wont get any damage

Fiend Hunter Buy becomes useless

Snapcaster Mage Buy lol

does it stop abilities like Bloodthrist and Soulbond?

I'm considering starting a deck based on it for future standard

Quoting Zelektor Trasztam:Torpor Orb Buy

Correct.
Quoting Zelektor Trasztam:
Phyrexian Metamorph Buy he dies when comes into play

Incorrect, Phyrexian Metamorph Buy has a replacement effect and copies a creature AS it is coming into play. (If this was not the case, it would always die with its ability on stack)

Quoting Zelektor Trasztam:
Warstorm Surge Buy i wont get any damage

Correct
Quoting Zelektor Trasztam:
Fiend Hunter Buy becomes useless

It becomes a 1/3 with no triggered ability.
Quoting Zelektor Trasztam:
Snapcaster Mage Buy lol

This loses the triggered ability as well.

Triggered abilities are abilities that begin with the keyword "When", "Whenever" or "At" <Condition>. If a card is lacking those words, it is not a triggered ability.

You have to check to full wording of keyworded abilities like Bloodthrist and Soulbond in the comprehensive rules to see if they are implemented as triggers. As I recall, both are.

Bloodthirst is not a triggered ability, thus Torpor Orb Buy won't disable it.

702.52a Bloodthirst is a static ability. “Bloodthirst N” means “If an opponent was dealt damage this turn, this permanent enters the battlefield with N +1/+1 counters on it.”

"Enters the Battlefield with" is not the same as "When this card enters the battlefield". That's how I differentiate them.

Uh, it is though. Anything that refers to creatures entering the battlefield stops working. That's why Orb stops Warstorm/Pandemonium.

Any ability that triggers on creatures entering the battlefield stops working.
(Dark Rit -> Torpor Orb -> Phyrexian Dreadnaught)
(lol.)

Incorrect. Torpor Orb Buy only stops triggered abilities. Abilities that say "enters the battlefield with ___" are static abilities, not triggered abilities, thus Torpor Orb Buy has no effect on them. Carnifex Demon Buy, for example, will still enter the battlefield with 2 -1/-1 counters when Torpor Orb Buy is on the battlefield.

Right, except I didn't have any of those cards in mind when I posted. You know how you don't mention something because you know it doesn't work anyways? Like that.
