Question Flagstones of Trokair - "plains card" 5/23/2012 5:58:23 PM

Anybody: help!

For years now I'm using Flagstones of Trokair Buy's triggered ability to search for a Savannah Buy.
Recently I had a discussion with a friend if this is allowed. The conclusion is: we don't know.

The discussion was the following:
Is a "Plains card" by definition a Plains Buy or can it also be a card that "counts as a Plains".

When looking in the rulesbook, a card is defined (unfortunately implicitely) as the combination of:
Card name + Mana costs + Type line + Expansion Symbol + Text Box + Power and Toughness + Collector Number

It seems impossible that a Savannah Buy can have the same Text Box, let alone the same Collector Number as a true Plains Buy. We start to believe therefore that Flagstones of Trokair Buy mentions on purposes "plains card", so that dual lands are excluded.

Are we just thinking too difficult? What is the rule that makes "counts as a Plains" the same as "counts as a Plains card"?

Thanks in advance for your help.

(let's hope that we are just thinking too difficult, otherwise everybody paid too much money for his/her Flagstones of Trokair Buy)

Quoting Lord Sauron:Is a "Plains card" by definition a Plains Buy or can it also be a card that "counts as a Plains".

A "Plains card" is a card with the subtype "Plains." Savannah Buy has the subtype "Plains," so it is a Plains card.

Quoting Lord Sauron:What is the rule that makes "counts as a Plains" the same as "counts as a Plains card"?

"Card" is just a word used to refer to things that aren't on the battlefield or on the stack. A "goblin" is a goblin on the battlefield. A "goblin spell" is a goblin on the stack. A "goblin card" is a goblin anywhere else (such as your library, graveyard, or exile zone).

"Counts as a Plains" is really old wording that you don't see on cards anymore. Savannah Buy is now just a "Land - Forest Plains."

Flagstones of Trokair Buy can search for any land card with the subtype "Plains." This includes Savannah Buy.
