RE: RE: Rise, GDF! 8/3/2012 8:37:25 AM

Probably had the worst backpacking trip of my life earlier this week.

We began with an impossibly long hike up the most ludicrously rock laden road, chock-full of slips and twists of ankles and knees. After 4 hours the sun had gone completely down and we were navigating only by headlamp, in desperate need of find a place to set up camp, everything around us was steep rocky slope. There was supposed to be a lake coming up with established camping spots around, but we couldn't see more than 30 yard away really, so it was difficult to find, we never did find the lake that night. Once we reached "camp" which was determined to be so only because it was a flat spot, a night of altitude sickness (nausea, headaches, intense discomfort) and maybe a couple other ailments that shouldn't be mentioned, and a morning of feeling hung over, incapable of viewing sustenance as desirable followed. Neither of us slept well at all and our plan of waking up at 3am to get a couple 14,000 foot mountains hiked quickly became a plan to get any kind of sleep, pushing back our wake up time to 8 am. The weather was significantly better than what was forecast, so we attempted the peaks anyway, but still couldn't even get within a mile of the summit due to fatigue, and knowing we would have to face that terrible road on the way down, we abandoned the peaks, hiked back to camp, and prepared to descend. I can't think of any other camping trip that was worse, but we did get a good story out of it.

It turned out that the lake we were looking so direly for, mainly because we needed a source of water, wasn't too far from camp. I actually knew this because I looked at my GPS and it said it was close. How close I wasn't sure though until the next morning when we both woke up and it was not 20 feet away from out tent. It was just too dark to see well enough to notice it. In the end, awfulness aside, we made it to a very pretty lake with a very scary mountain overlooking it. We conceded the two 14ers we had planned on, but that was the highest altitude I've ever camped at, and I got to do it with an absolutely amazing person.

I'm lookin' to buy a car to use for traveling. Found an '06 Crown Vic with 9K miles on the odometer for just under $16,000. I'm about to pull the trigger, but the car is way bigger than anything I'm used to driving and only makes 25-28mpg on the highway. That said, it only costs $700/yr for FULL coverage, it's so damn comfortable, and I assume everyone will think I'm a cop and move over. Plus an old lady owned it so I'm sure it was gently used, and Crown Vics have proven to be mechanically sound and last a long time.

get it smudge. a crown vic can survive a beating. thats what you need to think [sure gas is a thing, but durability is important]......

i had a beach party this weekend on the island, matched perfectly with the big island shin-dig. the first nite we figured that sense we had no neighbors on our side of paradise. we ended up being quite loud jamming to around 2-3 in the morning on the deck outside. the next morning people were generally not mad at us, even got a few compliments. the next day was a fun filled day, high tide was early afternoon. the island got packed, i haven't seen it so bustling with life sense i was a really little kid. the island party thinger was only a very short walk away, made a splash, ended up hanging out at the cottage more so though [with numerous people stopping in and out of their way out]. one person stopped in and was rather proud of the fact when we did play music that night, it went over the cheesy DJ tunes. i got into a fight with some beach lounger, lost and think i either sprained my foot or ankle [iunno it swelled up and hurt like a mofo a few hours later]. thankfully i have some swell friends who tried to prevent me from hobbling around and cleaned everything up spotlessly. we ended up running pretty late too, as i lack headlights in the car, and had to do an hour detour to drop someone off. i had someone drive [they were the only one with their id on em] and tried to to nag that "hey we gotta get 40 miles sorta soon, the highways kinda empty, mind cruising 75?". it took an hour to get there what normally takes 30-40 minutes. this was not going to fly. we had an hour to make it home from destination 1, which was twice as far. i ended up driving thanks to an obnoxiously high pain tolerance. except my foot ended up becoming jello later. my cat was pissed, he was alone all weekend. he left me a surprise at the front door that spiteful guy...

Vics are the way to go, but that's a really, really steep price. It might not be a good idea to get one with so few miles at that age either. That's barely enough to keep the car running well. I'd also be worried the old lady didn't service it properly. Service intervals have to be done in months, not miles, when you drive a car that infrequently. If she doesn't know that, you'll be in for a lot of repairs.

Oh, and I got my car inspected today. Not all that exciting, although the people there liked my car.

Technically you can't describe her as a MILF if you had sex with her... At that point she is just a MIF.

You could still desire to sleep with her again, thus MILF still holds true.

I didn't end up buying it as I couldn't justify the MPG for the amount of highway travel I'm gonna use it for. Ended up with a new Ford Focus SE for a little over $16000 (that's including all costs) which was a great deal. I'm still keeping my beater car for everyday use though.

No, she would be a MIFA.
