Hey, I have posted the deck and have been looking for input on this. Anyone have any ideas for synergy for a standard deck using black and red? It is a Vampire deck that primarily focus' on first strike and deathtouch. The deck consists of: 4 Bloodline Keeper Buy 4 Markov Blademaster Buy 4 Onyx Mage Buy 2 Rakish Heir Buy 4 Stromkirk Captain Buy 4 Stromkirk Noble Buy 4 Vampire Nighthawk Buy Spells 2 Necrobite Buy 4 Tragic Slip Buy 4 Vampiric Fury Buy 2 Victim of Night Buy Lands 4 Cavern of Souls Buy 4 Dragonskull Summit Buy 6 Mountain Buy 8 Swamp Buy Here is the deck's URL http://essentialmagic.com/decks/View.asp?ID=944090

There have been several vampires decks around since the release of Innistrad, though most of them actually focused on strategical combat using hordes of vampires. In this case, the strategy you employ is first strike and deathtouch. I have a few suggestions. 1) It is great that you have several lords for your vampires, namely Stromkirk Captain Buy, Lord of Lineage Buy and Rakish Heir Buy. They are equally important to make your vampires huge and strong. I suggest a couple of Vampire Nocturnus Buy for additional lords or maybe for sideboard. 2) I don't recommend Necrobite Buy to grant your vampires deathtouch. It seems expensive for just one creature's benefit, plus when you cast the spell, it's gone. You better stick to Onyx Mage Buy. The only problem is when M12 moves out of Standard, Onyx Mage Buy would make this deck move out as well. You have to look for other card/s that could replace him. 3) Replace Necrobite Buy with direct destructive weapons like Murder Buy or Brimstone Volley Buy. Victim of Night Buy is okay, but then it is quite limited especially in mirror matches. Just replace it with more versatile spells. 4) Vault of the Archangel Buy is fine, but as you mentioned you need to swap some black mana sources for Isolated Chapel Buy and Clifftop Retreat Buy. I strongly suggest that you watch out for the "Rakdos dual land" once Return to Ravnica is released. I believe that nonbasic land would play a great role, together with Dragonskull Summit Buy in this deck.

I went ahead and took your advice. I removed the necrobite and your right. It would have been the same. I was thinking that once I attack and they think they have the advantace, I would surprise them with that. I also liked necrobite because the mana cost was a single black instead of the 2 black for murder. Most of the creatures I have right now are base reds with a few black inbetween. So I wanted to even it out with more black spells to ensure my ability to cast something out every turn. I agree with the lands too, and it might be best not to try and overcomplicate my mana usage! Any other thoughts and Ideas I would love. I have added 2 murder to replace the necro bite. It is better in the aspect of not having first strike anyways :-P

Basicaly a kill creature OR get some cheap +1/+1 counters for my vamps by dealing direct damage to a player.

Actually the Vampires' ability says "Whenever [this creature] deals combat damage to a player." Direct damage is not combat damage, thus Lightning Prowess Buy can't get +1/+1 counters onto your vampires. Just replace it with direct damage spells, preferably Brimstone Volley Buy as they have the same mana cost.

Do you don't think I should enchant Vampire Nighthawk Buy or use Onyx Mage Buy For at most (after the creature is enchanted) a ![]() instant removal of target creature? Just for tapping one of mine?

I still believe that Onyx Mage Buy is much better than enchanting your creatures with Lightning Prowess Buy. In the first place, you can't use Lightning Prowess Buy if you don't have any creature. Besides that, you will be forced to use your creatures, like Vampire Nighthawk Buy to kill your opponent's creatures, more than you use them for combat. I still suggest the use of direct destruction spells such as Murder Buy, Tragic Slip Buy and Brimstone Volley Buy.
