I feel like these one page "articles" need to be somewhere else other then the Articles page. No offense to the guys and girls writing these, but they are more like "infomercials".

Maybe we should add a new category next to the Articles tab at the top for shorter one-three paragraph-long submissions.

Nonetheless, the article provides information that is useful to all Magic Players especially those who build decks almost for every Magic expansion. I believe that the prime criteria for choosing which article to be published (among the submitted ones) is its relevance to Magic norms and its impact to the majority of Magic Players. Thus the more "general" and "useful" the content of an article is, the higher probability it has to be published on this site.

And it happens to be a vaguely unwritten code for first step mana base. Obviously there are more in depth things to consider like flow of colors and such but that point is moot. I think a lot of new players would benefit from reading this.

Not all articles can be Aether Tech master pieces.

I think it is a decent article, I would have liked to have seen it a bit more fleshed out, but it's not bad.

Anyone who thinks they can do better, by all means do it (no, I'm serious, I need more to post)

Scott

A useful article for newcomers. I've read that lands should make up roughly 40% of your deck.

The counting of mana symbols and working out a ratio probably wouldn't occur to a newcomer.

With regard to your mana curve - statistically how many 1, 2, 3 etc drops do you want?

Furthermore, the rule about a minimum of 7 becomes an issue in decks with 4 or 5 colours.

That is sound advice if you are only using basic lands.
However, i become confused when building a multi-color deck with a few non-basic lands added into the mix.
How do i decide how many basic lands will be needed in addition to the non-basic lands i am running?
This number inevitably will be lower than 7.
(Check some of my posted decks plrz)
